STARRY LAMP
in collaboration with Maybrey Reliance
This is a collabotation project with Maybrey Reliance which is one of the best equipped foundries in the UK.
In the begining of the project, he visited the factory and had a interview about sand-casting metal. After some reserch and exploration about sand- casting metal, he focused on the coarse surface. Generally speaking, coarse surface is a negative aspect of sand- casting and is made smooth.
However, he utilised this negative point as positive one by using it for reflection. Eventually, the lamp maximaizes sand-casting attribute and minimal appearance is considerd sustinability.It is selected for making in the factory and will be sand-casted in this Autumn.

Starry Lampはイギリスでも有数の鋳造会社Maybrey Relianceとのコラボレーションプロジェクトである。プロジェクトの初めに会社を訪れ、鋳造の流れや見学し意見交換を行った。鋳物に実際に触れながら、砂型鋳造によって生じる製品の粗面に着目した。
砂型による粗面は製造工程において滑面処理されるのが一般的であるが、Starry Lampはその粗面を間接光に利用することに成功した。この製造における否定的な行程をデザインによって活用することができた。
